2 Insanely Easy Ways to Find Leads for Your Business on Instagram
Jan 31, 2022 Season 1 Episode 19
Emmy Cornwell

There's a two-pronged approach to how you're going to find these leads. You're gonna learn how to fish and hunt for leads on Instagram. With these two easy strategies, your direct messages will be flooded with conversations.

Let’s go fishing

Your content is fishing. Content should not only create curiosity but also inspire action. You shouldn't be getting applause for it. Instead, you should have people asking you, how do I do that? And that curiosity starts a conversation. And conversations equal cash.

Just a couple of tweaks in your content and you'll go from inspiring people to getting them to act.  Remember, you're just helping them get one step closer to their goal. You don't just want to inspire them, you want them to want to talk to you. Fish for leads with your content.

Time to go hunting

There are a few specific places where you can hunt. Start by finding out where your ideal client hangs out and the best place to find your ideal client is through targeted accounts. These are large accounts who are doing something similar to what you want to be doing...similar to you and your niche. Your ideal client most likely is engaging with these targeted accounts and if they like their stuff...then they most likely will like your stuff too.

To use this method of hunting, you start by going to one of the larger accounts and opening up their posts. You will want to open their posts and engage with the accounts that have left a comment on that larger account's post. Start with those who commented on the target account, since they are more invested in the content.

Pro tip: if you're hunting, it's easier to do it on the desktop, but you can absolutely do it on the mobile too.

How to engage with those possible clients. Open their accounts, leave a thoughtful comment on the first post, like the first three posts, and engage with their stories. This is a great way to get conversations started and build your leads.

BONUS TIP: Create a system to keep track of who you are engaging with and engage with the account at least three days in a row.

You are a business owner, then you are in the relationship building business, but maybe you're asking yourself or maybe asking me, okay. I mean, that's great, but where do I find these people to have and build relationship with? Well, good news sister, because in today's episode, I'm going to share with you exactly what.

To find these people find these leads so you can ultimately cash in on the ground. All right, let's go. Hey. Hey, it's your girl. Emmy Cornwell, Instagram biz, coach, and social selling expert. Welcome to the Hey. Hey, Emmy show. This is a podcast where we talk about all things that will be helpful for you and your business, everything from Instagram tips and tricks to help hacks to relationships.

And definitely some Jesus, basically everything in between Proverbs 30. And Tupac. I am so excited to party with you and each and every episode because ain't no party like a, Hey, Hey, Emmy party. Can I get an amen? All right, let's get into it, sister. Hey, Hey, what's going on? Welcome back to the, Hey, Hey, Emmy show.

How are you? What's going on? What is new? Oh me. Seriously, please message me. Now. I'm working on getting my DMS in control, right? It's a good problem to have to have out of control DMS. And it's not just something that's exclusive to me, by the way. You could, you too, could sister friend have out of control DMS now here's the like double-edged sword of that one.

That means people are wanting. They want to be in conversation with you. They want to know your expertise. They want to purchase your product. They want to pick your brain. They want help from you. They want to buy what you're selling. But on the flip side of that, right, the other side of the sword is if you're someone like me, I'm actually the one who responds in the.

I cannot keep up. And so I'm missing out on some really great relationship, building opportunities. I'm missing out on knowing people who messaged me better. I'm missing out on potentially business. I'm missing out on potentially people joining my social retail team, which that did happen the other day.

And that was a real like knife to the heart because it was the dream. It was a dream. Someone randomly that I did not know messaged me. It went into some spam account. She said, Hey, I found you through your reels. I really like you. And I like your vibe, you know, I want to, I want to join your for retail team.

And I was like, cool, but I didn't get that message until a month later. And so I messaged her back and she's like, man, I could not wait. I waited two weeks and good on her for, you know, at least trying to wait, but also getting. And social retail is the easiest way to make the most amount of money in the quickest amount of time.

So I'm happy that she's doing social retail, but she's not doing it with me, which is bum city times a million. So that really has got my wheels turning of how I can serve you better in the DMS. But here's the thing, please just reach out though. Don't let that stop you. And I've had to do this myself a couple of times.

I've had to bump my message. Quote-unquote bumped my meds. When I've reached out to other people, by going into their stories and engaging with their stories, I've done some emoji responses so that my message will go to the top of their DMS because I understand what it's like firsthand. I know what it's like.

It is absolutely 100% possible for things to get lost in the DMS. That's honestly, the only reason why I like Facebook messenger is because I feel like it has a better filtering system. But I am not giving up on Instagram, DMS. I have some new ideas of ways I can do better and we're going to be implementing those soon.

So wow. Tangent detour, but still a lot of great nuggets in that story in, in what I just talked about for the last couple of minutes. So hopefully, hopefully you're always gleaning wisdom and gathering nuggets when I'm talking, because sometimes. I don't even know what I'm saying. And I know that that usually means that's the holy spirit.

And those are usually some of the best truth bombs, some of the best wisdom nuggets, even if it is about business. Cause remember, like we've said, like I've shared in previous episode, the holy spirit is the best business strategist. He is absolutely. The best person to help you with your business.

Speaking of business. Okay. You're like, I get it. I need to build relationship. I am in the relationship building business. Emmy. I've got my affirmation on my post-it on my mirror and I'm with you. I agree with you. But where do I find these people is that you are, you're like, where are they? Well, this is one of the reasons why I love Instagram because Instagram has over a billion.

Users, which means sister, girl, you could potentially build relationships with over a billion people. Where in the world, what other platform is that even physically possible for you to meet that many people in one place? I mean, I've been to a lot of networking events in my day and I've never been at one that had a billion people.

I mean, I've been mentored a lot of large conferences, whereas. 26,000 plus people in stadiums, but that's not a billion. So there's just so much opportunity for you to make a new friend, put the social back in social media on Instagram, but I'm going to give you some strategy to pair with that today. Okay.

You game. Cool. Cool. All right. So there's a two pronged approach on how you're going to find these leads. Right. Cause that's what I do. I help you generate more leads and cash with using Instagram. So this episode is right up my wheelhouse. So he better listen even closer than you normally do. Okay, bill.

So here's the two pronged approach. It's you want to fish and you want to hunt and I'm going to break that down for you. What does it look like to go fish for leads and what does it look like to go hunt for leads? Well, let's start with fishing. I hate fishing. I hate fishing. Like the actual sport of fishing.

You have to get up super early. You have to like go out on the water. You know, it's better. If you drink beer, I don't drink beer. You have to wear all these like weird clothes. I don't know. It just doesn't it's not relaxing for me. Never been a Fisher. Quite frankly. I've never gone hunting either. So good thing.

We're talking about Instagram and actually through wildlife, if you fish. Super cool. Like, you know, my husband hunts on occasion. He doesn't like fishing Houston, duck hunt though. That's the only felt anyways, let's I'm getting off subject again. Let's stay focused, focus on me. So how do you fish for leads?

Will you Fisher leads by your content? Your content should be creating curiosity. That creates conversations. So if you're someone who. People say this too. Oh my gosh. Wow. You are so inspiring. Wow. I just love everything that you're doing. I love watching you grow and blossom. Gosh, it seems like you're up to some really cool stuff.

All of those things are people who are inspired by you. Your content is inspiring. That's great. If I had a penny, I'll sit with Benny. If I had a penny for every time someone told me I was inspirational, I would be a million. Okay. And that's nice and I love it. And thank you. And I hope that I ultimately, and this was a shift for me, help you to get into action.

I hope that I inspire you into action. So your content not only should create curiosity, but it should inspire action. It shouldn't have someone clapping for you. It should have someone asking you, how do I do that too? I want what you have. Can you help me? And if you're just putting everything out there in your context, In a way that is not creating curiosity.

So it doesn't create conversations. They're just going to clap for you or better yet. Actually, it's not better, but this is usually what happens. They're going to watch you, but they're not going to interact with any of your stuff. They're not going to like your stuff. They're not going to comment. They're not going to do anything and you have no clue, but if you can just make.

Little tweaks and your content that create curiosity that ultimately you create conversations, which say it with me, create cash conversations equals cash, right? You're not, you're, you're an emotive Teresa, you're a business owner. Let's make you some money. So if you can make just a couple tweaks in your content, you're going to go from just being inspirational to people, to getting them into action.

Whatever that is for your ideal client. Remember, you're just helping them take one step closer to their goal. So what is it, what is that action that you're eliciting eliciting in this one piece of content to help them do that? So for instance, how this plays out with like a product based company, if you're in business and you have a product, you don't have to just share all the different benefits or.

All the facts about the product, because first of all, no one cares. Remember they just want to like lose weight yesterday or they just want to feel better yesterday. They don't care. What's in it. They don't care about any of that. They just want to know it works. So if you're in a product based business, one of the things that you can do to create curiosity is yes.

Share some of the benefits, but don't, you don't have to write a novel. Great. It's almost like your wedding. Someone's. Where they're wanting, they're leaning in and they're wanting to know more because if you give them everything right upfront, they don't have anything to talk to you about. Right. They don't have any questions.

You've given them everything they need to know. And we live in a society right now that does reef. Like everyone wants to do their research. That's one of the great things about Instagram. For instance,

Instagram has the highlights, right? Where your stories can be. On pass the 24 hour mark, but that's essentially because Instagram is becoming more and more like a mini search engine. It's keyword searching is becoming a thing it's like a little Google. You get to control the narrative on your Instagram account, through the highlights and through the content you create, which highlights are part of your content, because their stories can, when I say content, I don't mean just your posts.

It's everything that you put out. That's content, whether it's a real story, a video alive, a static post, a carousel, whatever it is, a meme that's content, you get to control the narrative because people are going to want to do the research. They're going to want to stalk you. They're going to want to see if what you have really works for other people before they decide, you know, obviously that they have to trust you first, but then decide if it's something that they want to try to.

So if you give everything in one post, well, They have nothing to talk to you about, which means they're not having conversations, which means you're not creating an opportunity to cash in. Okay. So that's fishing, it's done by your content. Now here's the thing you can't just post and pray. That is not a sales strategy.

You can not only just post content and think that people are going to come to you. Now, what I teach is to both my private clients, as well as my social retail team is organic growth is organic conversations. That's one of the reasons why I talked about my dad was at the top of this episode, being out of control is because people are coming to me.

I'm not having to manufacture these relationships because of the strategies that I teach. So, yeah, that's ideal, right? I mean, give me a head nod. If you agree that you would rather people coming to you. Then having to like go out and find these people or go out and force any type of relationship. That's where the spammy Tammy's come from.

That's where the cold sales stuff comes from. That's where, you know, the old school cold messages. Hey girl, Hey messages, come from. You don't have to do that. But your fishing cannot be your only thing. Remember, it's a two pronged approach. So what's the other side of that? The hunting. Okay. So this is going to require a little bit more effort.

Are you ready?

I'm going to give you a couple different places specifically where you can hunt. And when I say hunt, I mean, you're going and giving engagement, you're going and finding, hunting your ideal client. Where is she hanging out on? Well, the best place to find your ideal client is through what I like to call targeted accounts.

That's people who your ideal client would be false. Okay. So if you're a Christian business coach, I'm guessing your ideal client is a Christian and she loves to follow other big name Christian accounts. Great. This is really good. You're going to go to those targeted accounts, which most likely have thousands and thousands and thousands of followers.

There are big accounts. Great. We're going to go hunt for your ideal client in those. And the best place to start is in the comment section, because those people are more invested in the content on this targeted account because they took the time to make a comment. Does that make sense? So if you're doing this on the desktop, you can actually scroll over, use your mouse and scroll over people who have commented on this targeted accounts posts, and it will show you the person's profile, their bio and their first three posts that they've made.

Side note. That's why referencing back to the last episode, you need to have a bio that tells people who you are, what you do, how you can help them. You need to have a profile picture that is light, bright, really up close to your face because that's a really small circle and you need to be smiling plus what you post does matter.

So if your first three posts are just you and your cat or you and your family, most likely people are probably aren't coming to your account and they're not staying. So. Pro tip though, if you're hunting, it's easier to do it on the desktop. If you're going to use this feature, but you can absolutely do it on the mobile too.

So you go into the comments, you scroll through the comments and you find your ideal client. And if they're there, you found them, you're going to click on their profile and you're gonna head to their profile and you're going to do three things. You're going to like their first three posts. You're going to comment on their most recent posts, then you're going to have to have their stories.

Hopefully they have active stories. I know as a business owner and people that I want to work with in either of my businesses, my ideal client usually has active stories. They know enough to actually just use stories. Now, most of them do not know how to use stories correctly in order to convert. So my ideal client, I usually am looking for someone who has active stories.

You have to decide. No, this is based off of knowing your ideal client, right? You have to decide if that's one of like the quick ways you can decide a person, if they're your ideal client or not. That's one of the quick ways for me, because this can be time consuming. So I would also encourage you to set a timer.

I set timers for everything. Otherwise I'll be in the scroll hole and I'll be like two hours later. And I was like, crap, I didn't get anything done. So. You go to their account. You've liked their first three photos you've commented on their most recent photo. Then you head to their stories and you do an emoji response on one of them.

Cause that's what you would do for your best friend. Right? If you were going through and you're like, oh, that's a cute shirt. You're going to do the little heart emoji. Or if someone did a really good quote, you're gonna be like, yeah, a hundred percent or something. Totally rocking a cool, I don't know, outfit or something, and you're like fire, right?

You're going to do that. Right? This is you're talking to people like they're your best friend. You're interacting with them in the same way, the same behavior. So on one of their other stories though, you want to also create eight conversation with words, not just emoji responses. So what you're gonna do is you're going to write like, Hey, I love your shirt.

Where'd you get it? Always end on a question too, but continue the conversation. So you go do this. If you want to take it to the next level, here's the bonus. You open up like a note section or an Excel sheet or whatever you like to track things with and you interact with this person for the next three days straight.

It can't be just a one and done because then they think you're like, want something from them. You do want something from them, but it can't be for them to be your customer client, or from them to buy from you. It has to be just to build that relationship expectations for them to be a customer. A client cannot enter the equation at this point.

Okay. Now, if you build a relationship with them, you find out they have a problem that you have a solution for, then absolutely. You're going to present that to them later and share that with them and invite them to take a look. But at this point, you're. Expecting to build a relationship. You know, it's not even an expectation.

So always add on a question so you can continue the conversation, then you go and you do that. You know, you pick a time, maybe you're like, okay, I'm going to do this hunting strategy for 30 minutes straight, or I'm going to do this for 15 minutes a day. Well, you go see how many people you can do it with.

Right. And then keep track if you're taking it to the bonus level. Okay. Here's the other place? That you can hunt for leads. Now the targeted account approach is really kind of like a quote unquote cold lead approach, because you really don't know these people from Adam, but I want to hit on some of your like, kind of warmer market.

And those are in your stories. Just like I teach you your stories are the people who have digitally raised their hand to follow you, but now they want to know more from you. So they're, they're looking, they're watching your reality. They're looking at your stories. So you're going to go into your stories and you're going to see, right.

There's a little button you can push that shows you, who is watching your stories. Here's what I want you to do again. Remember one of my quick, like identifiers of an ideal client is someone who has an active story. Well, what I do is then I go through everyone. Who's watched my story. And it's usually just, I just pick the first story slide, cause that usually has the most engagement, cause it's usually the first story of the day, right?

So it's going to have the highest reach quote unquote, which you can check all of this in your insights. And if you don't have insights, that means you don't have a business account. And more specifically should have a creator account because Facebook and Instagram and Mehta, yada yada, are paying creators a lot of money in the next couple of years to come.

So if you want a piece of that pie, You want to have a creator account. So I go through and I see who has active stories. And then I click on their stories. It takes me right into their stories. I don't have to go to their, like their profile. It takes me right into their stories and then I can interact with them.

I can send them emoji responses. I can write them a sentence and then bonus for me. And something you can do too is then I could go into their account. Like some of their posts comment on this. That's all it is. That's as easy it is. And those are your warm market. So those are people who are following you and are your loyal people, your raving fans.

Right? So why don't you go give them love if you want engagement, you better go give it. Okay. You can't just be happy that people are watching your stuff and you're not reciprocating or ship recruiting barcoding. Wow. That must mean I'm getting towards the end of the episode because. Super tongue-tied today.

Here is the other place that you can interact and engage with quote, unquote leads that are warmer and that's your pulse. Okay. If you are not using polls in your stories, you must be new to following me because that's one of the things I teach you need to be using polls. It's the best engagement feature that Instagram has, right.

For you to quote unquote, have a conversation with someone in the easy way. Remember people who use Instagram are just there for scroll hole. And most people aren't business owners. The poll is so easy to interact with. They just have to like click something and it can be totally mindless. So if you're not using polls, don't, by the way you use a poll on like every freaking story, that's annoying.

Don't do that. You have to be strategic and selectful, but these polls, by the way, when people are interacting with your stories, your content. Shows up the algorithm acknowledges that you two are friends and it pushes your little story circle to the front of theirs, but here's, here's what will help even more with that is when you actually, someone hits on your poll.

You message them when you're in messenger with. The algorithm likes that they think you guys are truly friends. They don't think you're a bot to think you have a relationship during dating relationship. Right? So when someone votes on your poll, don't assume that it was an accident. You need to respond back and say, Hey, I saw your vote on my poll.

You know, are you wanting to X, Y, and Z, or, you know, you fill in whatever your poll was about. You fill in the question. And let them respond. Let them have a conver like let's get into conversation, right? Because conversations equals cash and it's all done. So easy all through stories. That's why I teach on stories.

So, so much is because it really is the gateway to everything that you want in regards to cashing in on the ground. Okay. Hopefully these were all super helpful tips. You know what I know they are. That's why, that's why I take the time to share it with you because it's not just something I'm regurgitating.

It's something that I do with my own personal brand, something I teach my private clients something that, you know, depending on what we go over in 60 minute strategy sessions I share with. People who book those, which by the way, I only have a few more spots left for quarter one. Okay. When I first started business, I didn't know what quarter went with.

So let me just break it down for you. That means January, February, March, I only have a few more spots that are. To do a 60 minute strategy session with me. I actually just got an email from a gal that I did a session with last week. And she, because I send you notes, I take awesome notes. Just helps my brain.

And you get emailed them. After each session she responded back. I was like, oh man, last week was so, so helpful. I had another lady, the other month message me and say her story views after working with me had doubled and they were on fire. She said. So if you are someone who you just need a little bit more strategy on how to do this, so you're not spinning your wheels.

You're not wasting your time. You're actually maximize your time. Then head to the link in my bio on Instagram at Hey, Emmy, or just swipe up with the show notes and you can book a 60 minute strategy session and pick a time and day that works for you. And we will get going. We'll get rocking and rolling.

Okay. Sister. Take sure texture again, 10 times. How long make sure you take a screenshot of the episode tag me at, Hey, I mean, on the gram and girlfriend have the best day ever.
