Ak, we'll get you. Passion in on the gram. In today's episode, one of the pieces of content that we are gonna talk about specifically is reels, reels, reels, reels. Reels are still the hot thing, and so I'm gonna help you know exactly what you need to be doing in regards to making reels so that you don't be worried about anything other than just showing.

Hey. Hey. What's going on, sister girl, how are you? This is Emmy Cornwell, your host of the Hey, hey, Emmy Show podcast, all things. Proverbs 31 to Tupac. If you have been listening along recently, hello. Welcome. So glad you're here. You know that we've kind of been doing unofficially series, I guess you could say.
The last couple months as I have, was finishing out the last couple months of being pregnant and then having Cam my son and kind of being on maternity leave. I really honestly don't even know what that means by, you know, when you're an entrepreneur, what does that really mean when you're. Someone who is a content creator and a coach and has multiple businesses, I don't really know what maternity leave means.
I don't think I had one. I don't think I have one. But with all that time, where I was focusing on some other things, but showing up here with exclusive content, I was like, man, we could do some serious, but I didn't really call them, sir. So one month we focused on hormones. If you are struggling with your hormones, you need to go back and listen to that.
Um, right now, or, well, the last series I think was more on Facebook stuff. Right now I feel like I'm sharing with you kind of the basics and foundations of what you should be doing with your Instagram. So last week episode was about your handle and your username and all of the things in your bio, but specifically those two places you need to have on lock.
Because you're building a personal brand, so you can't have some crazy weird handle that has like some nickname you were called in middle school plus like your favorite number since you were two, and then you know your initials of your married name. I don't know, I just made that up. But go back and listen to that episode if you have a crazy handle or if you have a handle that is not your first and last name, or not something that's easily identifiable or here's the heat searchable because Instagram.
Is s e o. Now, that's not what we're talking about in today's episode. Sometimes I like to recap because you may be joining for the first time. And if that's you, welcome to you too. I'm so glad you're here. I'm so glad you're hanging out with us. Um, honestly, podcasting is so fun for me and like I said, just a little bit, like a couple senses ago, this is where I have been showing up exclusively.
During these last few months because time has been limited because energy has been limited. Cuz I'm a new mom and I'm navigating this season of motherhood and it looks different than it did, you know, two years when I was grinding and had three businesses instead of two and was doing two podcasts a week.
And, multiple, multiple clients and giving, you know, putting out courses and training. You know, I'm doing a lot of that stuff still, but it's not as publicly. So I'm glad you're here because this is where you and I are connecting most. Now, there is a comeback in the works for social media also. You follow me?
You know that my account got hacked last August in 2021 when my account was at 11,000 followers, and it has been a journey. This whole year has been a journey. Needless to say, you can pick up on that based off of what I've shared with you, have been going on in my life. So what are we gonna talk about today, Emmy?
Well, part of the reason why I'm sharing. These things with you is because honestly, this is content. If I was going to create some content right now for social media, um, you know, doing podcasting is technically content. Maybe you have an email list that's content. There are more things to create in content than just what maybe you think of as social media.
But if I was gonna create some social media content, I could take what we're talking about right now and go make a reel. About it. I could have my phone up right now. This is a money hit by the way. This is how you do B-roll. You have your, your phone up while you're doing your normal activities during the day, whether it's business activities or life activities.
And you can either do a time lapse or you can do a video. You've just created B-roll. So I could do that of me podcasting. I have done that. And then put some cool words over the top of the reel, create a caption and bam, I have a, I have a piece of content that's like, It doesn't get easier than that. Stop making it difficult.
But I am gonna help you today specifically with reels because I got a question in my dms that I want to answer. And before I share with you the question, before I share with you the answer, here's what I asked her. So she asked me a question. I said, oh, great question. I, I have the answer for you and I'm gonna tell you the answer, but are you on the Instagram insider scoop?

Then you wanna be on the Instagram and stereoscope. Okay. Now here for the question, are you here for it?
I'm here for it. It's a question I get often to be honest. And hashtag job security. Mm-hmm. Because reels are always a hot topic, and they are necessary as part of your content strategy, but they aren't the only thing. And so in some episodes to come, we're gonna talk about some of the other parts of Instagram content.
One of my favorites Instagram stories, stories is seriously where it's at. But you can't have one without the other. Especially if you actually wanna make money. And I know you're here, you're not running a charity. You're here to make money. So first things first. Emmy, let's talk about this question. Here it is.
Okay. She says, real question. I love it. She just gave it to me up front what she was gonna a she told me what she was gonna tell me and ask me. I loved it. Does your reel get more play if you pick a real audio? That's a trending one or one that's been used a lot or when you import your own kind of music or original audio.
Now I kind of edited the question a little bit just so that we can all be on the same playing field. Cause I knew exactly what she meant. She basically was asking, should I use a trending audio or should I use an original audio right? My of my own? Now the answer is both are. Good to use it just depends on your goals, right? I mean, original audio is not gonna necessarily get you all these quote unquote views, but are you here for the views or are you here for the dollars? Because original audio, usually you're teaching, you're training, you're giving educational content because it's your voice versus using a trending audio.
And that trending audio could be music, it could be instrumental, right? It could be, um, you know, something that you lip sync to. I don't know. I feel like I've seen less people do that more and more, which is nice. There's a time and place for it. There's a time and place for all the different types of reels.
But to answer her question, like I said, you wanna use both. So really it comes down to your goal. If your goal is to. Grow and get visibility and you're not necessarily focused on the conversion, to dollars, then you would want to use the trending audio cuz the theory is that if you use a trending audio, you're gonna get in front of more eyeballs.
But depending on what your real is, depending on what the audio is, are those people really your ideal client you don't know? And that's why yeah, you could get views. But the conversion may not be there. And also views don't even mean doll, or, well, they definitely don't mean dollars, but they don't mean followers.
And you have to have followers before you have dollars. But if you, your goal is to make some money, honey, then you'd wanna use some more original audio because that most likely is gonna be targeting to your ideal audience, your ideal client. They're gonna resonate with that more than just like a cutesy trending like inspirational reel.
And again, there's, we're not going to go into the different types of reels. I'm specifically talking to you today about something that was in the email of the Instagram insider scoop a couple weeks ago. I'm answering it here for you about how to find trending audios. Because, because there's new features, Instagram has come out with new features to make this even easier, You know, and if you're like me and you're trying to find Tommy in between all the mom things you know, for me I'm pumping, I'm feeding my son cuz he has a feeding tube still.
He just got off his oxygen, which is so awesome. We're huge praise with that. Um, but all the normal life things and there, there's just a lot. Right. And I'm sure you have a full and a full schedule and, and are busy too. And so, I don't want content to be one more thing that you have to do that you feel stressed about.
You are the content, right? You've heard me say that like, that's why it should be easier is because you're just simply creating content from who you truly are. Who, um, you know, your life, what it is. Just hit play, right? Or just hit record. And you're gonna have more real content than you could ever have.
But here is that tangible way of the new feature to find those trending audios. Because when Instagram does give you new features, you do want to use them. They're doing it for a reason. And when you utilize and you play their game and utilize their new features, the theory there is that you're going to be seen more, right?
Because you're operating in their playing field. So here's the first way, again, there's two ways to find training audio. You, um, when you go to. Like a reel. So like you're already in your, your Instagram app, you've hit the plus sign, and then you've chosen the option to make a reel on the left-hand side.
Closer to the upper left-hand side, there's going to be an audio icon, and when you hit that, that's going to help you search for songs in the Instagram vibrate. Okay, it's gonna pull up another screen. And it's gonna show you a list of a bunch of different audios. What I want you to do is I want you to look for the arrow.
By each audio, there should be an arrow. If there's not an arrow, then it's not trending. But if you find an arrow that's pointing to the upper right corner, that is a trending audio. Okay? That is the first, and they're both pretty easy. But that's the first way you can find a trending audio for reels. They never used to have that.
They never even used to have the arrow. Okay, the last iteration before this of how you would know if trending audio is, is you would have to scroll through the reels feed, look in the lower left-hand corner where the audio name was, and then there may be an arrow and there still is. You can still do it this way, but this takes you longer.
So the two ways I'm giving you today is quicker. It's saving you time, and it's so much easier, which I know you want. But we used to have to do it that way, and there, if it was an arrow, then it was like a little squiggling. Don't do it that way anymore. Do it the way I'm telling you. Go like you're gonna make a reel, hit the audio, and then it pulls up a list of what is trending and what's gonna be a good option for you to choose for you then to go create the content.
Here's the second way, and this way's pretty cool, and you only have this if you have a business account. If you are a personal Instagram account, that's okay. Again, it just always goes back to your goals. But this way to find trending audio reels is only if you have insights and you only get insights when you have a a personal account.
Okay, so the second way is you are going to go into your insights. So you're on your profile, you click on your professional dashboard. And now there is a dedicated space to find the latest real trends. So what you're gonna do is once you're in your insights, you scroll down and it says real trends. Okay?
You're gonna click on that. It's gonna give you the most popular songs on reels. It's also gonna show you the number of times the audio has been used. And then you can e either you know, you can save it or. Not. What is important here is the number of times the audio has been used. Ideally, and this is like a bonus because this is always a follow up question, so hopefully you're listening.
How many times should an audio be played that makes it trending enough for me to use? Because trending, there could be a trending audio that has like 21,000 views. Or uses, excuse me, but is that, is that gonna be as quote unquote trending as maybe when that's under 10,000, that's under 5,000? I would stick with the ones that are under 10,000 in less uses.
Now that being said, and this is just goes for everything. If you wanna make a piece of content and you find an audio that's perfect, and I'm finding this to be true with a lot of these, like baby and newborn audios. They're so cute. They're so perfect for the piece of content I wanna make, but they're not trending.
I don't care. And neither should you make the content that shouldn't deter you from making the piece of content that you are inspired to make. That is like the number one way to block your creativity. Just make the reel now. If you see some trending audio that you like, you can save it for later. You know, if you're coming across and you can save it for later, and then maybe you'll be able to create content that way.
But please, please, please, please, please do not, not make a reel or a piece of content because it, you're not using a trending audio. If you love the audio, just make it cuz it's gonna be okay and it's gonna get you to where you want to go no matter what. With that being said, if you are gonna use a trending audio, look for ones that have 10,000 or less placed.
Okay. It is not that hard, so repeat after me. I love making reels. Making reels comes easy to me. Creating reels is fun. I love making content that comes easy to me. Content is the way. I show up creativity. Creativity, creatively, creatively, creatively. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Mom, brain, I cannot speak, say affirmations.
If you to yourself and speak life over yourself if you do not. Have a good mindset when it comes to content creation or anything else in your life. That means there's some type of narrative that you just have to rewire, and I know it sounds silly, or like affirmations for creating content. Well, what's the alternative?
Is what you're doing working out for you right now? Or you just continue to be in the burnout cycle? You continue to be in the perfection cycle. You continue. You need to be in the cycle of fear. You continue to procrastinate for whatever reason. Get it. Hey, I get it. I've been there at different seasons in our lives and our businesses.
Those things are gonna pop up and rear their head. And the best way to combat that is to replace the lie with the truth. And you can do that by doing those affirmations as silly as it as it is for something like creating content. Because it shouldn't be hard. It should be fun. And if you ain't having fun, sister, girl, you know what I'm gonna say?
